One definition of migration is simply “movement from one place, region, or country to another.” Think of a time when you migrated. Maybe you moved from one country to another. Maybe you moved from your parents’ home to the foreign land of a college dorm. Maybe you moved from one side of town to the other. Let whatever arises arise, and go with that. Take a moment to close or lower your eyes and feel into that time in your life. Reconnect with who you were then, where you were, how you felt in your body.
In answering these questions, liberate yourself from or bind yourself to known facts at will. Make things up, be absurd, and/or admit that you don’t know and use that as your point of inquiry. Then answer the following questions in full sentences or phrases, writing whatever comes to mind. Dive into each answer by asking and answering the question “why” or "how so" at least three times. As always, this writing prompt is intended to be a jumping-off point, so go where the impulse takes you.
